It is also unique to Australia and is a totem for many First Nation people, totems are a very significant part of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and identity. The name Koala is derived from the Dharug name for the animal, which translates to ‘no drink’. Given that these cute and cuddly creatures famously mostly hydrate themselves with gum leaves. They need protection and support now! Some of the biggest threats for these amazing creatures are wildfires, habitat loss though logging and land clearing for development! We want to bring awareness to some of these threatened species from around the world.
